09/07/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Minnesota Twins try to put the brakes on a four-game losing streak this evening when they open a three-game series with the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.
The Twins enter this series on the heels of getting swept by the Cleveland Indians, including a 6-2 setback in Wednesday's finale, which all but ended their already slim hopes of capturing a fourth AL Central title in five years.
Torii Hunter and Luis Rodriguez each drove in a run in Wednesday's defeat, while Scott Baker (8-7) got the loss as he gave up three runs on 11 hits in five innings of work for Minnesota, which has dropped eight of its last 10 and is 12 games behind the first-place Indians.
Hoping to get the Twins back in the win column tonight will be righty Carlos Silva, who is 11-13 with a 4.34 ERA. Silva won for the second time in three decisions on Saturday against Kansas City, as he allowed three runs and eight hits in six innings.
Silva has lost three times already to the White Sox this season and is 4-9 lifetime against them with a 5.63 ERA in 17 games, 15 of which have been starts.
Chicago, meanwhile, also enters this series on a sour note after dropping the rubber match of their three-game series with the Detroit Tigers, 3-2, on Thursday at Comerica Park. A.J. Pierzynski was the only player with two hits for the White Sox, who have lost two straight and seven of nine.
Trailing 2-1, Detroit rallied for two runs in the ninth off reliever Bobby Jenks (3-5), as he scattered a leadoff single to pinch-hitter Timo Perez, who reached second on an error by second baseman Danny Richar as his throw sailed into the visitor's dugout.
With two strikes, Mike Rabelo bunted Perez to third and from there pinch- hitter Sean Casey singled home pinch-runner Cameron Maybin for the tying run. Casey also got replaced on the basepaths by Omar Infante, who reached second on Brandon Inge's groundout. Curtis Granderson then got hit by a pitch, and Placido Polanco grounded the game-winning RBI single into the gap in left field.
Getting the ball for the White Sox this evening will be right-hander Javier Vazquez, who has lost his last two starts. Vazquez was defeated by the Indians on Saturday, as he allowed four runs (three earned) and eight hits in six innings to fall to 11-8 on the year, while raising his ERA to 3.91.
Vazquez has beaten Silva and the Twins twice this season and has faced them 11 times in his career, going 3-5 against them with a 4.94 ERA.
Minnesota has won seven of its 12 matchups with the White Sox this season and is 17-14 in the series since the start of last season. These two teams have split six meetings this season in the windy city.

Sportsbook betting odds favor Europe in Ryder Cup
September 19, – Despite holding a decided edge in the all-time series, with 24 wins, 2 ties and 10 losses, Team USA is the underdog again heading into the Ryder Cup in Kidare, Ireland this weekend, according to MySportsbook.com. The Europeans have captured four of the past five editions, including their largest victory ever, an 18 ½ to 9 ½ thumping in Michigan in 2004. Current Ryder Cup betting odds favor the Europeans to continue their winning ways; they are a 4-5 bet to take the title, compared to 6-5 for the Americans.
Despite being knocked out in the first round of World Match play by Shaun Micheel, Tiger Woods is predicted to lead the US charge and be their highest point scorer for the week, with odds listed at 9-4 that he outpoints all other American players, including Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco to name a few. Team USA has four relatively unknown players on the roster but all four are 2007 tournament winners and have posted some of season’s best performances, each earning over $1.5 million on the PGA TOUR. They include Zach Johnson, Vaughan Taylor, JJ Henry and Brett Wetterich.
The experienced European squad includes the likes of Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabal and Darren Clarke, who’s emotions will be tested after the passing of his wife to a battle with cancer. Donald and Garcia are in particularly good form and each is a 5-1 bet to lead the European squad in the points race. Donald has proven he can go head to head with Woods at a major event after a run for the $1.2 million purse at the PGA Championship. Garcia’s Ryder Cup credentials prove he’s ready for battle too.

Chiefs' Treen Green out for Sunday's game

Oddsmakers at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com currently have the Chiefs listed as 7-point favorites versus the 49ers.
The 49ers got beat by Philadelphia 38-24 as a 6.5-point underdog last week. The combined score went OVER the posted over/under total (42.5).
Alex Smith completed 27-of-46 passes for 293 yards with a touchdown. Michael Robinson rushed for 29 yards and a pair of touchdowns on five carries.
